You should copy the skins to a local directory and update the files if a newer version is found in the configured directory. I suggest dropping /sdcard and using /mnt/storage/sdcard instead.Ī custom option would be fine, too, for devices without an SD card. In response to message #11 by Thomas Okken Message #12 Posted by Marcus von Cube, Germany on, 5:30 p.m., You're not the first one I've heard from that said that the /sdcard path doesn't work I think in the next release I'll add a field to the Preferences dialog to let you specify the skins directory yourself. I'm afraid I'm an Android newbie myself - I can't help you with advanced topics like rooting the device or setting up ssh. In response to message #10 by Marcus von Cube, Germany Message #11 Posted by Thomas Okken on, 5:08 p.m., :(ĭo you know of an ssh server so that I can administer my device better? I try rooting my device and correct the link but I don't know if that's permanent. My /sdcard link is wrong, it points to /mnt/storage instead of /mnt/storage/sdcard. In response to message #9 by Thomas Okken Message #10 Posted by Marcus von Cube, Germany on, 3:55 p.m., They will be picked up the next time Free42 is launched. In response to message #8 by Marcus von Cube, Germany Message #9 Posted by Thomas Okken on, 2:55 p.m., The filer isn't very helpful, it seems to hide most of the file system. How do I install new skins? I managed to copy them to a local file. In response to message #7 by Thomas Okken Message #8 Posted by Marcus von Cube, Germany on, 2:33 p.m., The Android version stretches skins to fill the screen so you don't need an exact fit. I don't have any skins designed specifically for Androids yet, but you could try some of the other "mobile" skins (from the Pocket PC, PalmOS, or iPhone skins packages). In response to message #6 by Marcus von Cube, Germany Message #7 Posted by Thomas Okken on, 12:36 p.m., I'd like to see a hires skin, the image looks very "pixely". The real estate for the keys is pure luxury. Message #6 Posted by Marcus von Cube, Germany on, 8:34 a.m.,Ī quick check on my Archos 70 is promising. In response to message #4 by Thomas Okken Message #5 Posted by Bill (Smithville, NJ) on, 6:45 p.m., I can't say when I'll implement it, but in the meantime, you can make the key clicks go away by clearing flag 26. In response to message #3 by Bill (Smithville, NJ)īill, your suggestion is noted. Message #4 Posted by Thomas Okken on, 12:47 p.m., I'm now busy downloading RAW files to the phone. One small suggestion - could you add a preference to turn off key clicks? Or better yet, toggle it to vibrate? Having file i/o now makes it the perfect calculator for my Droid X. I second this - Fantastic work you have done. In response to message #2 by Forrest Switzer Message #3 Posted by Bill (Smithville, NJ) on, 9:58 a.m., In response to message #1 by Thomas Okken Message #2 Posted by Forrest Switzer on, 11:17 p.m., Once I have tested it on a few real phones, I'll put it in the Android Market, too, but that may take another week or so. I finished my Android port of Free42 the big missing features (program import & export and printing to files) are done. Message #1 Posted by Thomas Okken on, 8:05 p.m. If I change the target back to 8, the overflow menu works again.Īny thoughts on what I could do to fix this? My Google skills aren't working on this one.Free42 for Android The Museum of HP Calculators It used to look fine on the Moto G5 as well, before I targeted API 26. In the Android simulator with an API level 8 image, the overflow menu still looks fine. This is the only device I have available for testing with API 26 at the moment, at least until I figure out how to create an AVD with API >= 26. The phone on which I'm testing is a Motorola G5 running Android 8.1.0. You just can't see them any more: the whole menu is solid black now, which is the normal background color the menu item text is missing. The overflow menu still posts, and it still has the correct size, and the menu items still work. The menu and the Java logic that creates and posts it has worked for years, but now I'm changing the targetSdkVersion from API level 8 to 26, per the latest Play requirements, and now all of a sudden, the menu items in the overflow menu have become invisible.
